Apple Announced iPad Mini Event for Oct. 23

Apple sent out invites to members of the media on Tuesday for an event to be held on October 23. To be held in San Francisco, the tech giant is expected to unveil its smaller version of the iPad. The emails Apple sent out simply read “We’ve got a little more to show you. Please join us for an invitation-only event at the California Theatre in San Jose on October 23 at 10:00 a.m.” The colorful rainbow design of the invites provided no clues as to what Apple will announce during the event. But rumors are rife that the event is being held to introduce the 7-or-8-inch version of its popular tablet now being called the iPad Mini.

Rumors about the smaller version of the iPad have been circulating since last month. There are very little details about the said device which Apple has refused to neither confirm nor deny. Analysts, on the other hand, are guessing that it may not feature the high-definition “retina display” of the iPad. The smaller version of the iPad would allow Apple to compete with its rival small tablets such as Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Google’s Nexus 7 which many believed have caused a weakening of Apple’s hold on the market. Coincidentally, Apple’s invites came on the same day Microsoft announced the upcoming prices of its Surface tablets which are set to hit stores on Oct. 29. Reports have it that Apple will also introduce its other products including a 13-inch MacBook Pro and an upgraded version of the MacMini.
