TELCOS Ease Rates on Roaming Services

On Thursday, Globe announced a new promo where postpaid subscribers can avail of “unli” services for users who go abroad. Dubbed the “Globe All-Unli Roam,” the service allows postpaid subscribers who are on roaming to subscribe to any of its three unlimited roaming combo services so that they can be “worry-free” when using their mobile phones outside of the Philippines.

Globe’s Rizza Maniego-Eala disclosed that this newest service of Globe will give the company the “widest range of roaming offers and promos.” She said the company hopes that the move will cut roaming costs by as much as 90 percent. Globe All-Unli Roam rolled out initially on October 11 in Thailand.

In a parallel move, Smart Communications intimated that they were in talks with several Asian telecommunications firms to establish partnerships over LTE (Long-Term Evolution) roaming services. The company said, they hope these partnerships will allow their subscribers to surf the net at truly faster speeds than ever before while they are abroad. They are currently in talks with Japan’s NTT Docomo, Hong Kong’s Hutchison Telecommunications, South Korea’s KT Corp., and Singapore’s StarHub, the company said. Alex Caeg of Smart said that they are “working on LTE roaming arrangements with other leading Asian telcos so Smart subscribers would continue to have the best Internet experience when traveling abroad.”
