ASUS Launches Padfone 2

The new Asus PadFone 2 was just unveiled in Taipei making it official that the phone and tablet combo will be hitting the stores before the end of this year. This is the second phone and tablet device released by Taiwan’s tech giant, Asus. The tablet is technically a dock for the phone and Asus is calling it the PadFone Station. The Android smartphone element fits into the back of the 10-inch tablet to get the tablet working. The phone, on the other hand, is a stand-alone device.

The phone features a 4.7 inch 720p Super IPS display while the tablet has a 10.1-inch screen with a 1280 x 800 resolution. It comes with a quad-core Qualcomm processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 13MP camera. The front-facing camera is at 1.2MP. It still runs on Android Ice Cream Sandwich but ASUS has promised an upgrade to Jelly Bean in the near future.  The device also supports LTE functionality where available. It comes with a 2,140mAh fixed battery. The fabulous phablet now weighs an amazing 649grams, down from its predecessors 854 grams.

The new ASUS PadFone 2 is hitting Taiwan’s store next week, with a choice of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions. Customers can choose the one with the tablet version or the one without.
