Forget steering wheels – you don’t need them anymore! Google brewed up a storm in the automobile industry when it finally revealed its first driverless car prototype.

Unlike Google’s previous driverless cars that were just heavily customized so that it can navigate from point A to point B without driver intervention, the new set of wheels doesn’t even have a steering wheel. It only has a stop and go button inside the cabin – no pedals, no steering wheel, no nothing.

Google said in one statement that ” they won’t have a steering wheel, accelerator pedal, or brake pedal… because they don’t need them”. True enough, the two-person capacity car is fitted with a gamut of ultra-sensitive sensors that can detect objects two football fields away. The sensors are also strategically placed so the car has virtually zero blind spots.

Google has also emphasized on making the car as safe to ride (not drive) as possible. Aside from the sensors mentioned earlier, the revolutionary car can only drive up to 25 miles per hour.

“They have sensors that remove blind spots, and they can detect objects out to a distance of more than two football fields in all directions, which is especially helpful on busy streets with lots of intersections,” the multi-billion dollar company said further.

The car also features a very friendly smug, reminiscent of a saturday morning cartoon your kids watch.

This is a good news, actually, and opens a lot of opportunities. For one, seniors and disabled people will be empowered; if the car becomes publicly available, they can easily commute from point A to point B without doing anything other than just sitting. It could also lessen traffic in the near future.

Google said that they plan to build around 100 prototypes which they will test pretty soon. They also said that these self driving cars will be available to the public by 2020.
