Intel Launches New Atom Processor

At a formal launch held Thursday, 27th September, Intel introduced their newly developed Atom processor formerly known by the code name “Clover Trail”. The company showed off eight new tablets during the launch, all powered by the Atom Z2760 chip and feature the Windows 8 operating system. The tablets were made in partnership with Acer, Asus, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Lenovo, LG, Samsung and ZTE.  The new devices will be out in late October, according to Intel.

The new tablets are meant to target corporate customers as Intel has incorporated productivity software on the devices including Word and Excel and has enabled connectivity to peripherals such as printers. They promised long battery life of up to 10 hours and are said to be capable of HD video streaming. These tablets are ideal for both work and play.

Some of the newer models feature detachable keyboards and a stylus which is ideal for content creation. Intel explained that some of the newer models will now fill in a spot in the PC tablet space rather than competing in the media tablet space making their market grow and become more diverse. The company is not going head-to-head with Apple’s media tablet as their tablets are really a different product.

With the new tablets, Intel is clearly looking to adapt. What Intel is offering is the best of both the desktop and the tablet. The new tablets are for people who need the Windows operating system but want it even when they are mobile.
